About ninety minutes south of Bordeaux you’ll find the town of Landes, and if you head east from there towards Toulouse, you’ll find the town of Gers. This is the heart of Gascony, the birthplace of Armagnac. Famous for its unique “Tawny Sands” terroir, the Bas Armagnac region is super rich in clay and minerals, and ideal for the grapes needed to produce one of our favorite liquors.

In 1990, Jean-Louis and Claire de Montesquiou purchased the run-down Domaine d’Esperance “House of Hope” and began to restore it. Thirty years later it’s one of our favorite producers.

Their standard bottlings are lovely, fruit-forward and flavorful without being overly sweet or tonic. But when Nic Palazzi and PM Spirits get to taste their entire cellar and pick one single cask. Well, this one is a BANGER! Straight from the cask with no additives, at 52% and 21 years old, this is a real beauty. Blending intense fruit and spice, it opens up with pears, apricots, and plums. Then there’s a hefty does of spice - pepper and cinnamon, and some lovely char and oak. It drinks wildly smoothly for 52%, making it a wonderful drink before or after a meal. Definitely a special occasion bottle, this is a real treat!
